    Are you accounting for the cost of removing and reattaching the panels when you need a new roof? Curious how much that eats into your ROI

    • @FrugalRepair
      @FrugalRepair 10 годин тому

      I don't think there is a need to. Because I put panels on when I put a new roof on, I'm expecting the roof to last much longer than without the panels. With electricity prices climbing my payback period is close to 5 years. After the 5 years I have 20-25 more years of warranty on everything so it will all be profit then. If I need to replace the shingles by the end of that warranty, I'll probably be looking at putting in the new tech at that point.

    I'm curious as to how the power company feels about the system back feeding to the grid when working on the lines? You hear all the time about the supposed danger of generators back feeding and the need for an interlock or transfer switch to protect the linemen. Does the bi-directional meter do something to allow it to shut off the back feed?

    • @FrugalRepair
      @FrugalRepair День тому

      It is a requirement that you can not backfeed. A power company guy was just at my house and told me his group was working with a crew from out of town and one of workes almost died (he lost both of his arms) because someone was running a generator (presumably) and backfeeding illegally during a power outage. The approved equipment all have auto-shutdown so they do not backfeed in this scenario.

    My monitor Samsung c24fg70 need an exorcist!!! it's quite annoying cause I see vertical artifacts every day I turn the PC and have to wait up from 5 minutes to 10 minutes to see my screen working well. it's something on the monitor, when I connect to PC via HDMI works well, but when it is displayport this is the problem. Tried with 2 different graphics card, tried with more than 1 displayport. The mess is this monitor, sold as 144hz, only shows 144hz when on displayport. If I connect with HDMI it gets hooked to 120hz. Maybe it's time to trash this samsung and never buy samsung again (it's is a problem since the start, long story reported to them, bot nothing done)

      @@FrugalRepair Sorry my friend, this wasn't a rant on you, but instead a big frustration with the brand. I have recently bought a portable monitor 144hz for 130 euros and works much better than the 400 euros monitor. I have done all that is in my reach on this sh*tty samsung, checked the entire mainboard, the connector. Much more frustrating is if by any chance I try to swap the mainboard, it cost 85 Euros + shipping. I guess my bes approach is to buy a new Arzopa 144hz portable monitor that works perfectly fine. I only posted this comment and description, there was no generic solution (ie: a capacitor) In fact the symptom appears to be a resistor or capacitor, as the problem is always the 5 to 10 minutes until the artifacts disappear (it was left to say that the artifacts , vertical, take up my entire screen, preventing me from interacting with the menu). Another thing is, I've tried setting the monitor to 60hz, 120, 144 and the problem is always the same. Anyway, thank you very much for your feedback.

    • @FrugalRepair
      @FrugalRepair 4 дні тому

      I plan to give an update to how the finances have worked out for us over all these years. I've had the system running longer than when I published the video. We are net positive during the year. I made a video on this topic with the details and our bills if interested. I don't know your circumstance but if you have southern facing exposure, and 1-1 net metering available then I would definitely recommend getting solar. If you don't have those things, it would depend on electricity costs and how much solar you can put in.

    Yo bro, I’m a 17 year old dude (more like kid because I’m immature) and I took it upon myself to repair my familys Samsung tv which had one side of it completely black. No clue what I was doing so naturally I decided to punch the screen a few times and then whaddya know I made the other half black, after watching a few videos I managed to locate the source of the problem was broken led lights. So, took the whole thing apart. Still pretty clueless and accidentally ripped one of the tab bonds off in the process. Had I known that there extremely difficult to repair I wouldn’t have spent 50$ on brand new leds. Now that’s just part one, part two: after learning about he tab bonds and how brutally fcked I am I decided to super glue the tab as well as I could to the board. Yep. Non electrically conductive everyday household superglue that looked like it did the job, (when I did this the tv was still in pieces) so here I am. Looking at ways to see how I can put the tab thing back on. Remove the superglue and fix the tv. Is it possible?

      @FrugalRepair 4 дні тому

      Yeah, sorry for the bad news but ripping a tab bond from the driver board is basically an unrepairable situation. The have machines like you mentioned but they are too expensive. In the past I played around with some techniques to get them back on but nothing yet that I am ready to make a video about. Probably the closest that I have come is to cut a channel into the yellow tab at an angle then solder the pins to the driver board from the top.

    The weird thing about my issue is that the screen only fully works when i cover 21 pins up from the left side of the cable . With multiple black horizontal lines about a inch long just on the right side of the TV . When i uncover more pins it the screen just starts to go white and makes different patterns everytime i uncover the next pin . But then when i just cover up pin 20 or any single pin on its own after that point the screen doesnt work at all just white with vertical lines all over .

    • @FrugalRepair
      @FrugalRepair 5 днів тому

      Sorry, I can't help. If you've figure out which half of the screen is bad then it's kind of a trial and error thing with the row signals. Just need to block the right one(s). It is possible that your fault in the panel is not able to be circumvented with this row blocking technique.

    • @CM-1723
      @CM-1723 4 дні тому

      @@FrugalRepair maybe not fixable like you say might be too many rows of leds with a fault . Are 58 inch panels known for having issues ? I see most manufacturers have stopped making 58 and just do 55 then straight to 65 inch . There's a video of a guy in India who fixes a same make and model by replacing a c242 capacitor on the cof board , that tv symptom is fully black screen with a white bar going down the middle , I also got that at some point while taping and untaping pins .

    What an awesome job and video. Couple of questions 1. Does you power company limit your number of panels to your kwh useage and no more? Where I live you can only install upto or less than your total annual kwh useage. 2.Do you have and HOA and if ao did you have any issues with them?.

    • @FrugalRepair

      Thank you for your encouraging words! 1. I think there may be a limit that is flexible. I think they are reasonable but they don't want you inordinately exporting power, so if you are exporting a little over your usage it shouldn't be a problem. 2. No, thankfully we don't. I don't like HOAs.

    Thanks man for the video and repair, just got a 70 inch vizio TV yesterday for free, after diagnosing i am not able to find a single error in the power supply except on AC-DET which have 4.34 volts instead of 5volts, dont know if 4.34 volts are ok or not which drops to 3.28 volts after connecting the mainboard, for me it seems a mainboard problem as i am also not getting any voltage at PS-ON which seems to be at ON after mainboard is Ok and send signal which is received through AC-DET, correct me someone if i am wrong. Hope i also fix this 4K TV as you did the great job done.

    • @FrugalRepair
      @FrugalRepair 8 днів тому

      Thanks for watching. If the screen isn't cracked then you have a good chance to get it working again. I'm not sure what AC-DET is for but PS-ON is important. With everything connected and plugged in, it should measure under 3v (probably near 0v) but after you press the power button on the side (or remote) then it should go up over 3V. This tells the power supply to turn on all of the other main voltages, including the backlight. Good luck!

    Hi, thanks for the video. I managed to get rid of the horizontal lines. I got down to just 1 line and now the tv has no more lines but on the damaged side the color is really faded… any idea why? Should I leave all 8 lines covered? Thanks Keep up the good work

      If you watch both part 1 and 2 I try my best at explaining why there are faded colors. I would try to leave the least amount blocked as possible.

      Then I would suspect the tcon board next. That's not a guarantee but it's the next thing I would guess.

    I have the exact same issue. The TV is perfectly fine with the backlights working well. But No picture. The technician did the exact same thing. by pulling off one of the ribbon cable and one section of the screen showed the LOGO. when the other side was pulled off the TV was blank. The repair guy said the panel is gone and need to be replaced and would cost 400$ while the TV itself is $1000. Please help me fix it. I cannot afford to spend this amount in repair.

      I'm surprised the technician tried that but didn't mention this trick. What help do you want beyond what I showed in the video? Make sure to watch both part 1 and 2 for the most information. Give it a try, just make sure there is no power going to the tv when working on it and that the cable(s) is re-seated correctly before powering it up.

      @@FrugalRepair I went through the part 1. I will go through the part 2. And try the trick that you have explained. Hoping that this helps me in fixing the tv. Fingers crossed. Will ensure no power is going to the tv while working on the ribbon cable.

    A couple of interesting questions: 1) WHY don't you have power from your solar array if the sun is out and the grid goes down? and can you rewire stuff differently to get power? 2) If you have shadow on one solar panel does it affect the other ones? on your test with the solar cells the power produced was the limited to lowest one in the series..so I wonder how are they wired in your roof to maximize production but reduce loss from a single power getting shadow that I see in some roof scenes..

      For #1 - it is a requirement to be grid tied to comply with UL1471, which means you can't backfeed power when the grid is down. There is also another requirement for rapid shutdown of the inverters if the grid goes down. I could probably come up with a solution if I absolutely needed the power from the panels. 2) No, each panel is on it's own because I have power optimizers. If they were directly connected in series, then it would affect them.

    Yeah of course solar is better and cheaper but there's no such thing as no bills. Buying a solar system is paying a few years of bills in advance.. also maintaining the system like replacing batteries, panels, wiring, costs money which turn into bills eventually.

      I doubt you are interested but I made a video explaining more of the finances. This has been a great investment.

    They would never pass that permit in California. They would require some other type form and engineering signature.
